The Extrusion Supervisor is responsible for supervising and providing overall direction and coordination of the operations and employees in Extrusion department. The Extrusion Supervisor has a full understanding of and will act in accordance with leadership expectations
Essential Functions of a Plastic Extrusion Supervisor:
- Complete understanding of work instructions, production standards, process flow, safety procedures, quality standards, production procedures, and SOPs
- Highly versed knowledge of Global Shop procedures (clocking in & out of jobs, daily production & material transfers, checking inventory status, verifying completion of pick tickets, and completing daily tasks); provide guidance, support, training to employees as well as troubleshooting)
- Fully knowledgeable of production locations, inventory locations, and staged locations of finished goods off production lines
- Provide the safest possible workplace to our employees by modeling and enforcing all company safety policies & procedures, ensure proper wearing of PPE, reporting accident/incident/near misses/unsafe conditions, conducting investigations, involvement in developing corrective actions, actively participate in safety committee, and conducting safety audits
- Inspect the product that is being manufactured, using various quality inspection tools correctly.
- Complete production and quality reports accurately
- Involvement in continuous improvement activities.
- Operate forklifts of various types, safely and effectively.
- Ensure all employees understand the expectations regarding safety, production, and quality performance.
- Maintain a level of operation at a rate which will meet or exceed scheduled production requirements accurately, efficiently, and safely.
- Ability to run, to properly set up, change-over and make necessary adjustments to all equipment within the department
- Advanced ability to maintain proper inventory counts or determine root cause for variance
- Work with and communicate with other team members within their department as well as other departments to complete job assignments within the scheduled amount of time.
- Work with and communicate with other team members within their department as well as other departments to improve current conditions to manufacture a good quality product at the highest possible output, maintaining the lowest possible cost in a safe work environment utilizing safe work practices.
- Managing the day-to-day operation, schedule, quality, and safety functions in the department.
- Responsible for the coordination of staffing, materials, quality control, and maintenance to meet expected productivity.
- Ensure good housekeeping is adhered to and maintained in all work areas.
- Work closely with management staff regarding productivity, quality, and employee performance.
- Provide process guidance and technical troubleshooting support to employees in order to maintain a high level of productivity and quality
- Employee management to include but not limited to: assess staffing needs, conduct interviews, involvement in new hire selection, train new employees, schedule workforce, complete new hire progress reports, conduct annual performance evaluations, address performance & attendance issues through coaching/corrective action sessions, engage employees in career development planning, comply with and enforce company policies, conflict management & resolution, conduct investigations, future succession planning, involvement with terminations, etc.
- Review and approve employee time cards; manage time off requests being cognizant of the daily workforce required
- Provide detailed information, to the department manager, that is relative to the safety, production, and quality
- Train department leads to ensure that they can perform the requirements of their position to successfully be your back up.
- Ensure every company message and communication is being shared with all department employees.
Qualifications for a Plastic Extrusion Machine Operator
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English proficiently.
- Basic knowledge of OSHA, State, and Federal labor laws and regulations
- Good understanding of production processes.
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
- Effective, clear, and professional communication skills (both written and verbal)
